Professor Jongwoo J. Kim’s new book Male Bodies Unmade: Picturing Queer Selfhood is now under contract with the University of California Press. Examining narcissistic narratives and queer incoherence in Aubrey Beardsley, Jean Cocteau, Francis Bacon, David Hockney, Robert Gober, as well as Andrew Ahn, this book will comprise six chapters and 80 color images.
“We’re thrilled to be publishing Male Bodies Unmade,” Acquisitions Editor Archna Patel at UC Press said. Dr. Kim’s book “advances the decolonial project in art history even while focusing on white male bodies,” she adds. “It’ll be a must-read for scholars in art history, visual culture, and queer studies alike.” The hardcover edition is scheduled to be first released in 2023.
