Professor Yoko Sekino-Bové Explores the Art of the Teapot in Pittsburgh

Through a pop-up exhibition, artist talk, and workshop, Sekino-Bové highlights the history and craft of ceramic teapots.


On view September 5–14, Professor Yoko Sekino-Bové presents a pop-up exhibition of ceramic teapots at Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media. Known for her inventive and highly crafted approach to functional ceramics, Sekino-Bové brings together a body of work that showcases the versatility and character of the teapot form.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Sekino-Bové will give an artist talk on Friday, September 12 from 6–8pm and lead a two-day masterclass, Consider the Teapot. This intensive workshop introduces participants to handbuilding and wheel-throwing techniques, the construction of functional parts, and surface decoration methods for greenware. Blending demonstrations with discussion, the workshop examines the teapot’s long history while encouraging participants to develop their own approaches to the form.
