This summer, Professor Lyndon Barrois Jr. showcased his work in two exhibitions exploring the intersections of technology, identity, and visual culture.

“Reanimator” at Stove Works

Curated by Elizaveta Shneyderman and Anthony Discenza, “Reanimator” opened on August 16 and will run through November 9, 2024, at Stove Works in Chattanooga, TN. The group exhibition examines the impact of cinematic and animation technologies on visual culture, exploring the concept of animation as an illusion created through the interpolation of static frames. Professor Lyndon Barrois Jr.’s work was presented alongside pieces by fourteen other contemporary artists, highlighting the connections between technological systems and visual aesthetics.

“Sample” at Chilli Art Projects

Presented in London during August 8-29, 2024, “Sample” brought together artists who use sampling, appropriation, and abbreviation to create new contexts and visual languages. Professor Barrois showed three works, Print Preview, Selective Focus, and Brown Paper Flag Test, which referenced the historic brown paper bag test used to discriminate against people whose skin complexion was the same or darker than a brown paper bag, combined by Barrois with a CMYK wave pattern to comment on issues of racial hierarchy and colorism.
