The exhibition “Nearing Each Other” highlights personal narratives of belonging, with Dzegede contributing six works exploring family history and transformation through textile art.

Professor Addoley Dzegede is featured in the new group exhibition “Nearing Each Other” at Carnegie Museum of Art’s Forum Gallery, through January 26, 2025. The exhibition brings together six Pittsburgh-based artists, including CMU Professor of Photography Bryan Martello, whose work reimagines connections to place as a site of unfolding relationships. Dzegede’s contributions include Papa (2024) and Grace and Anthony (2021), textile pieces made from reactive dye on cotton using batik and painting techniques.

“Nearing Each Other” is curated by Cynthia Stucki in partnership with the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, the oldest continuously exhibiting visual arts organization in the country. The exhibition invites viewers to engage with themes of belonging and transformation through a diverse range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, textile, and found objects. Each medium of storytelling connects the personal with the universal, drawing from the artists’ own experiences to reveal deeper truths about migration, family, and the impact of environment on identity.
