Mikey Cao
Briefly describe your artistic practice.
I’m a queer Chinese-American multidisciplinary artist university student working mostly with film and animation. My personal work often explores a nostalgia and ferocity remembered through the lens of Asian-Americana, gender/sexual identity, and loneliness. I encourage the viewer to contemplate the ‘quieter’ aspects and effects of overarching structures and personal relationships.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on some 3D character animations and coordinating the first sound pass for the CGA showreel project!
What do you plan to do after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to go back home to ATL, GA – get settled for a bit, see what’s around, possibly get involved in the film or animation scene there. Definitely open-ended with aspirations to go elsewhere eventually, current dream goal would be to work in production management for a place like Studio Grackle (based in Rhode Island), though I do love a warm climate.
