Senior Spotlight 2026: Kate Myers

Posted on February 23, 2026

Watch how senior Kate Myers turns the tropes of Hollywood horror and science fiction into cinematic art.

For Kate Myers (BFA ’26), storytelling is tactile. Her multimedia practice explores the physicality of bodies, whether in film, print media, or practical effects, and often through the lens of horror and science fiction. Throughout her time at CMU, Myers has balanced studio work with opportunities to gain professional experience, from traveling to Los Angeles for a creature-design workshop to attending the Telluride Film Festival Student Symposium. Her solo exhibition “Geiger County” at The Frame last fall reimagined her hometown of North Apollo, Pennsylvania, as the cinematic setting for a dystopian, “radioactive” world. Over Spring Break this March, Kate is headed west again to work with some of Hollywood’s leading special effects companies specializing in prosthetic makeup, animation, and practical effects.

In this spotlight, Myers discusses her evolution as a multimedia artist and how her time at CMU has prepared her to take her talents to the heart of the film industry.
