Associate Professor of Art History & Theory Jongwoo Jeremy Kim was invited by the Department of Painting at Seoul National University (SNU) to deliver a lecture on March 17, 2026, in his mother tongue, Korean. Under the title “David Hockney: The Missing Body is in the Pool,” he explored his notion of the artist as a queer skinwalker mocking the rhetoric of Abstract Expressionism.
The invitation to speak also held personal significance for Kim, marking a multi-generational connection to SNU, widely regarded as the most prestigious higher education institution in South Korea. Kim’s father attended Seoul National University in the 1960s, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
