Carson’s “NEW WORK” at Golden Thread Gallery features three film projects exploring cultural connections between Ireland and Pittsburgh through humor, research, and storytelling.
Professor Emeritus John Carson will open a major exhibition, titled “NEW WORK,” on September 12 at Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast. Originally from Northern Ireland and now based in Pittsburgh, Carson’s multidisciplinary practice spans film, sound, installation, and public art to explore themes of history, identity, place, and belonging.
The exhibition centers on three film works: Carson Street, a humorous investigation into the namesake of Pittsburgh’s prominent thoroughfare; Pittsburg Street, an exploration of a Belfast street bearing the name of Carson’s adopted American home; and Same But Different, a study of shared musical traditions across border counties in Ireland.
Supported by Culture Ireland’s Shared Island Touring Production and Platforms Fund, “NEW WORK” is presented in partnership with Askeaton Contemporary Arts, Golden Thread Gallery, and the Border Biennale. The exhibition is on view in the Lower Gallery through October 31, 2026.
