The event brought together 19 local artists, including faculty and staff across CMU’s College of Fine Arts, for a multidisciplinary finale to the Start-UP PGH conference.
On September 18, Professor Johannes DeYoung organized “Pittsburgh, Tomorrow: A City on the Rise,” in collaboration with civic nonprofit Pittsburgh Tomorrow as a multidisciplinary showcase of the region’s evolving landscape. Serving as the finale of the inaugural Start-UP PGH conference, a weeklong showcase highlighting the region’s leadership in AI, robotics, and life sciences, the event held brought together local artists in a series of collaborative performance installations.
Combining dance, music, animation, photography, painting, and interactive media, the program included contributions from CMU School of Art faculty Jamie Wolfe, Sujin Kim, DeYoung, and MFA Program Associate Director Wendy Willis. Soundscapes were created by CMU School of Music Professor Annie Hui-Hsin Hsieh and Hussein Pwono (DJ pvkvsv), paired with dance performances by Attack Theatre.
“Their works, collectively and individually, ask us to reflect on the uncanny and often overlooked moments in daily life,” DeYoung told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
