Join Merrell and Walters Kessler (BFA ’14) for a panel discussion on “Broken Ground” at the University of Pittsburgh on February 8, 2025.
Professor Clayton Merrell and alumna Jamie Walters Kessler (BFA ’14) will join artist Chris McGinnis for a panel discussion on “Broken Ground,” an exhibition at Pitt’s University Art Gallery (UAG). The event, moderated by Alex J. Taylor, Associate Professor of History of Art & Architecture, will take place Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 1:30–2:30pm in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free with registration.
The panel will explore industrial landscapes in the exhibition and the challenges of creating art in the Rust Belt today. Walters Kessler, a post-conceptual artist, combines creativity with civic action to address social justice issues, while Merrell’s work often reflects on the evolving narratives of landscapes. “Broken Ground” is on view at the UAG through February 2025. The gallery will offer drop-in tours at 10 AM, 12 PM, and 3 PM on the day of the event.
