Professor Angela Washko‘s essay “War Games” was published in the May 2021 print issue of The Architectural Review, which focuses on the theme of play.
Washko writes, “Here, arguments frequently made by game developers that games are spaces for escape, fantasy and detachment from the weight of ‘real-life’ completely collapse. Military developed games go into the public sphere as recruitment and propaganda tools, thinly veiling the othering of those the US are in conflict with.”
