Kovak will show in a group exhibition at the Tomayko Foundation alongside Professor Saige Baxter, while also exhibiting at Slippery Rock University’s Martha Gault Gallery.
“Transparency” at the Tomayko Foundation
Opening October 1 and running through November 13, “Transparency” considers the passage of light, physical visibility, and personal vulnerability as modes of creative self-disclosure. Presented in partnership with the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, juried by Lacey Murray and Cat Burton, and organized by Nina Friedman, the group exhibition features work by both Professor Kristen Letts Kovak and Professor Saige Baxter. Kovak’s featured work continues her ongoing investigation into visual perception, abstraction, and reframing the uncertainties of chronic illness as a catalyst for possibility. Baxter’s blended installations are a synthesis of sculpture, welding, and play-influenced design, which is also currently on view in Sweet Treat at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.
“Near Here” at Martha Gault Gallery, Slippery Rock University
From September 28-October 28, Kovak will also be among the featured artists exhibiting work in Slippery Rock University’s Martha Gault Gallery, which hosts a regional iteration of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh’s 112th Annual Exhibition, “Near Here.” Juried and curated by Allison Lacher, the multi-venue annual spans four Western Pennsylvania university galleries linked by the overarching theme of nearness and connection. Each participating gallery anchors its portion of the exhibition around a dedicated sub-theme, with Slippery Rock focusing on “Suspend.” The gallery will also host a Juror Tour with Allison Lacher on October 24 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
