As part of the Youngstown University’s Art Lecture series, Professor Maria Elena Versari will give a talk at the McDonough Museum of Art on October 22. The talk, titled “Mechanical victories. Of machines, proletarians and the politics of the avant-garde,” takes its cue from Michel de Montaigne’s famous dismissal of Western ideas of superiority at the time of the Conquista to reframe how the concept of technological supremacy was debated by avant-garde artists in the 20th century.
