In conjunction with Jessica Labatte’s solo exhibition “Shade Garden” at Western Exhibitions in Chicago, Miller ICA Director Elizabeth Chodos wrote the feature essay in the exhibition catalogue. The catalogue also includes contributions by Michael Milano, Elisabeth Holland Rose Smith, Jeff M. Ward and interview with Jessica Labatte by Eric May.
“Shade Garden” continues Labatte’s explorations into paradoxes and illusions within photographic images. Her two interrelated series of color photographs explore photographic notions of the visible and invisible, the present and withdrawn as they champion beauty in the everyday as a radical gesture in our contemporary moment. The exhibition in on view through December 22.
