STUDIO Lecture: Teddy Cruz & Fonna Forman

In our increasingly walled world, and the surge of anti-immigrant sentiment everywhere, can the idea of citizenship be recuperated for more emancipatory and inclusive political and social agendas? Cruz and Forman will discuss their work on “citizenship culture” at the US-Mexico border, and the Cross-Border Community Stations project, a platform of knowledge exchange that links universities and nonprofit organizations on both sides of the border.

Estudio Teddy Cruz + Fonna Forman is a research-based political and architectural practice in San Diego, Transgressing conventional boundaries between theory and practice, and merging the fields of architecture and urbanism, political theory and urban policy, Cruz + Forman lead variety of urban research agendas and civic / public interventions in the San Diego-Tijuana border region and beyond. Their work has been exhibited widely across the world, most recently at MoMA, YBCA, the Cooper Hewitt, and in the U.S. Pavilion in the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale. Teddy Cruz is a professor of Public Culture and Urbanism in the Department of Visual Arts at UC San Diego. Fonna Forman is a professor of Political Theory and Founding Director of the Center on Global Justice at UC San Diego.
