Professor Huidi Xiang‘s work “How to Be an Artist in Minecraft” in now on view in Minecraft through October 31. The exhibition is organized by Ender Gallery, an exhibition space and artist residency that exists inside the game Minecraft, which is partnered with MacKenzie Art Gallery in Saskatchewan, Canada.
“How to Be an Artist in Minecraft” is an exhibition examining the affordances, limitations, and expectations of creative work on the Minecraft platform. Documenting Xiang’s learning process during her residency, the exhibit considers what it means to be a working artist within a game designed for play. Through data visualization, digital sculpture, and performance, the exhibition offers insight on the value of artistic labour in Minecraft.
