Think the CMU School of Art might be right for you? Meet with us to learn more about the admissions process to join our vibrant, interconnected community.
In-Person Tours
Student-led tours of the School of Art are available in July through August 15, and will resume again in September.
During the tour, you’ll explore art classrooms, workshops, and individual studio spaces.
Please note: Due to summer renovations in the College of Fine Arts building, tours will primarily focus on our makerspaces in Doherty Hall. This tour is limited to the School of Art and does NOT include the broader Carnegie Mellon campus, residence halls, or dining facilities. To explore those areas, please join a Campus Tour.
Undergraduate Program Virtual Info Sessions
All events are held in U.S. Eastern Time. Use this website to find the correct time in your time zone.
School of Art BFA & BXA Info Session
Join us for a virtual info session to learn about the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and inter-college BXA (BHA, BSA, BCSA, BESA) programs at the School of Art. We’ll introduce you to our uniquely experimental, concept-driven curriculum and walk you through the application process, portfolio guidelines, important deadlines, and more!
This is a group session with a live Q&A. After attending, you’ll have the option to sign up for a one-on-one meeting to ask specific questions or a portfolio review. Parents, guardians, and family members are welcome!
Current Student Q&A
Curious what it’s really like to study art at Carnegie Mellon? Join this open Q&A session to hear directly from current BFA and BXA students about classes, studio life, and the campus community.
Portfolio Pitfalls: Do’s & Don’ts
There’s no one “right” way to build a portfolio but there are common missteps. In this session, we’ll talk about the different types of art schools (there are over 300 in the U.S.!), and offer tips on how to choose and organize your work, document your artwork effectively, and write about your process and artist statement.
