Magda Gourinchas (b.2001) is an interdisciplinary French-American artist. Part of her creative process is driven by memories and moments in which she or someone close has experienced mental or physical pain. Perhaps living through the college transition and, shortly thereafter, the social isolation associated with COVID-19 has made her turn inward. More recently, Magda has used graphic parody and hints of humor to represent canonical images (Biblical stories) and concepts (therapy, aging, pain, fear). She does this by painting characters who experience certain situations that she sees as full of meaning.
