Andrew’s video and animation installations celebrate The Marthaodyssey, a performance remixing the worlds of Martha Graham and Madonna.
Before audience members take their seats for The Marthaodyssey at Pittsburgh’s Kelly Strayhorn Theater on November 8 and 9, they’ll first encounter a 12-channel installation in the theater lobby, with video and animation that capture the spirit of the performance.
Professor Scott Andrew‘s sequences are also integrated into dance artist Jesse Factor’s performance, which reimagines what it might look like if modern dance icon Martha Graham had choreographed Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour. Factor trained at the Martha Graham School and danced with the Martha Graham Dance Company, and currently serves in the Modern Dance unit at Point Park University’s Conservatory of Performing Arts.
Following the November 8 premiere, the theater will host a post-show celebration featuring Pittsburgh’s queer DJ collective Jellyfish, transforming the lobby into a vibrant dance floor to honor Graham and Madonna’s legacy. The November 9 performance will also be followed by a post-performance discussion.
