The animated short will be featured at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and Athens International Film + Video Festival this spring.

Professor Emeritus James Duesing’s 2024 animation Adulting is set to screen at two major independent film festivals this spring. On March 28, Adulting will be part of the Animation program at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the longest-running experimental film festival in North America. Then, on April 8, it will appear in the Technophobic program at the Athens International Film + Video Festival, a globally recognized platform for underground and avant-garde cinema. Both festivals celebrate bold and inventive filmmaking, placing Adulting among a lineup of works pushing the boundaries of animation and storytelling. Developed from the collective experiences of a diverse group of LGBTQIA+ people, the film weaves a fever-dream narrative—a queer valentine that blends surreal imagery with playful, yet poignant storytelling.
