Shikeith (b. 1989; Philadelphia, PA) is a multidisciplinary artist whose complex practice interrogates sociopolitical structures that oppress marginalized communities, drawing on hauntology and African diasporic spiritual traditions to create magical realist photographs that challenge gender norms and engage viewers with invisible forces shaping perception. He earned a BA in Integrative Arts from Pennsylvania State University and an MFA from Yale School of Art, with work held in permanent collections including the Carnegie Museum of Art, Hammer Museum, and Baltimore Museum of Art, among others. Recent exhibitions include Feeling The Spirit In The Dark at The Mattress Factory Museum (2020) and notes towards becoming a spill at the Performa Biennial (2021), and he has received notable awards including the 2022 Pittsburgh Foundation’s Exposure Artist Award and 2019 Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. The artist lives and works in New York, NY.
