Himeka Murai

Himeka Murai (b. 1996, Tokyo, Japan) is a visual artist working across sculpture, painting, and installation. Her practice engages with memory, materiality, and displacement through everyday materials, photographs, and found objects gathered through walking and observation. Drawing from personal and urban histories, her work considers how traces of labor, place, and disappearance remain embedded in physical materials and environments. She has exhibited in New York and Tokyo, including spaces like Morgan Lehman Gallery, UNDERDONK, 95 Gallon Gallery, Studio 9D, New York Live Arts, Random Access Gallery, Kunstraum LLC, Incubator Studio Gallery, and Muracekai. Murai was a Young Artist Fellow at the ChaNorth International Writers & Artists-in-Residence Program in 2024 and participated in the NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program in 2023.
