Two Summer Sessions
The Pre-College Art program offers three- and six-week options for both commuter and residential students. Classes throughout both sessions are held mornings and afternoons, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for special workshops. Medium-specific classes, such as Drawing, Sculpture, and Animation, will help build your technical skills, while our Concept Studio classes will teach you how to think about art in a wider contemporary context. Individual instruction, in-class work sessions, critiques, demonstrations, and lectures are all part of the classroom experience. You should also expect to attend nightly open studios in order to complete work outside of class.
Session One Courses
Both three-week and six-week students:
- Drawing
 - Sculpture
 - Animation
 - Concept Studio

Session Two Courses
Six-week students only:
- Painting
 - Digital Photography
 - Printmaking
 - Concept Studio (a continuation of the first three weeks)

Concept Studios
Concept Studios are an integral part of the art curriculum for all undergraduate students in the School of Art. During the Pre-College experience, we condense these college-level courses into a rigorous two-part (Session One and Session Two) introduction designed to assist students in the development of personal, non-medium-specific approaches to generating art.
Instruction is centered around helping you to develop work that focuses less on technique and more on the creative process itself and what artmaking can convey to others. Assignments include readings, short writing projects, collaborative projects, and the completion of individual artworks.
Areas of exploration may include:
- the self and the human being
 - space and time
 - systems and processes
 - social practice
