Morgan Shankweiler

Morgan Thomas Shankweiler hails from Swarthmore, PA. She graduated with sociology and studio art majors from Williams College and studied miniature painting in Jaipur, India. Her background in sociology informs her work, which examines interconnectedness, potential systems and the commonalities of human experience through the visualizing of parameter-based and aleatoric game-play. Shankweiler has been awarded residencies at SVA (NYC), Penland School of Craft (NC), Da Vinci Art Alliance (PA), ChaShama/ChaNorth (NY) and Peninsula School of Art (WI) and a grant from the Joseph Roberts Foundation. She also works as a teaching artist (Penland School of Craft, Philadelphia Museum of Art) and a muralist with MuralArts (Philadelphia). Her award-winning work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the US.

A collector of skill-sets, Morgan has worked myriad jobs in her time between college and the present. She has designed and painted sets for theatrical productions, illustrated album covers, worked as a paper conservation technician, written art-history lesson plans for 4th graders and sculpted elaborate (and delicious) cakes at a bakery. For the past 12 years she has balanced work and a growing studio practice with the raising of three stepsons (now grown) and fraternal twin daughters (9) with her husband, John.
