Julie Azzam‘s article “Beyond ‘The Hero’s Journey’: We Need Diverse Curricula” was published in the May/June issue of Horn Book Magazine, a special issue dedicated to “Diverse Books: Past, Present, and Future”. Azzam’s essay is response to a lack of diversity in her son’s 10th grade English syllabus and a look at the Eurocentric roots of the literary canon as it’s constructed at the secondary education level. The article also includes some suggestions for change and greater diversity.
