Professor Devan Shimoyama is among the seven artists the New York Times interviewed for a feature on Andy Warhol’s lasting influence. Other artists interviewed are Julia Wachtel, Nina Chanel Abney, Wayne Gonzales, Mickalene Thomas, Yasumasa Morimura, and Glenn Ligon.
“Warhol exposed so many people to so many different things that they hadn’t really looked at,” Professor Shimoyama told the paper. “He forced the viewer to rewrite narratives in ways that queered our own notions of reality and what’s acceptable.”
