In Episode 2 of the Whereas Hoops podcast, John Early and Noah Cohan talk with Professor Lyndon Barrois Jr. about his “Of Color” exhibition for the 2016 Great Rivers Biennial at CAM St. Louis, what it’s like to put an asphalt basketball court inside of an art museum, noticing the lack of hoops in forest Park, being an NBA fan today, and how artist practice can function in the fight for social justice.
Whereas Hoops celebrates basketball’s long history in St. Louis while examining the fact that there are no basketball hoops in the city’s “crown jewel,” Forest Park. In doing so, the project examines the powerlines — race, class, gender — that exist within the city.
