Miranda Miller is next up in our Senior Spotlight series!

Briefly describe your artistic practice.
I call myself a sculptor because someone once told me “everyone has a vague idea of what that means, but no one’s willing to ask.” My theory is to work in / with whatever accomplishes the job, and if you don’t know what that is, it’s time to learn something new. I’m focused on touchable things, feelable objects, the people who own them, and how it’s almost always vice versa.

What are you currently working on?
Currently, I’m working to record my family’s storytelling through quilting.

How has your artistic practice changed since you started working entirely from home?
My first studio consisted of odd corners and any flat surface I could find, so the shift in workspaces has done little to change my practice. In accordance with self-imposed law, there is always a sewing machine, needle, and toolbox wherever I go. This has let me return to old habits of making clothing, macgyvering whatever’s available, and constantly / tediously mending.
