Saige Baxter
Adjunct Professor of Art
Since being named “Emerging Artist of Pittsburgh” in 2019, Saige Baxter has installed public sculptures throughout the Pittsburgh region, including The Museum Lab of Pittsburgh, The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Portugal and other locations. Her first international public sculpture was completed in 2018 and is permanently installed in Messejana, Portugal through the Buinho artist residency. Other residencies include Museum Lab, Bunker Projects and TOUGH Art. Saige has been a welding and metals instructor throughout the past decade for Industrial Arts Workshop, Protohaven and Open Works in Baltimore. Baxter acquired her Master’s of Art in Teaching from MICA in 2022, leading to her positions as a high school art teacher in Pittsburgh School districts, and Director of Community Engagement and Education for Sweetwater Center for the Arts. With her education background, her art practice is influenced by playful learning. Recently, she exhibited with Every Woman’s Biennial in NYC, which earned the title of the largest woman’s biennial in the world. The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Brew House and Associated Artists of Pittsburgh have displayed her work locally. Currently her semi-permanent, interactive installation Sweet Treat is at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh from her participation in the TOUGH artist residency.
