While on sabbatical, Professor Beck is currently creating work as a fellow at the Lucas Artists Fellows Program (LAP) at Montalvo Arts Center near San Francisco. She works in a range of media such as drawing, print and installation to survey architecture and landscape. Meditations on weeded lots, street signs, gas station banners, pieces of lawn and sidewalk urge a reconsideration of the built environment, bringing the banal and everyday into focus.

Lucas Artists Fellows are selected through an international selection process, which is held for each discipline approximately every three years. The Lucas Artists Residency Program (LAP) relies on an international group of over 200 nominators who are each requested to nominate three artists of exceptional merit. Nominated artists are then invited to submit a full dossier on their work, which is reviewed by a jury of experts in each discipline. Approximately 24 artists in each discipline are selected every three years. Artists are awarded three months in residency at LAP, which can be taken over three years. Artists frequently return to Montalvo several times over this period.
