SUMMARY:Women in Animation Speaker Series presents: Lisa Crafts
DESCRIPTION:Lisa Crafts is an animator and moving image artist whose interdisciplinary work addresses issues of environmental uncertainty\, sexuality\, creativity and chaos. She is currently working on a series of short moving image pieces about the horror\, beauty\, humor and loss of the Anthropocene. Blending animation\, video\, photography\, drawing\, painting and sculpture\, the work inhabits the blur between what is seen and what is imagined. \nCrafts’ work has screened in Europe\, Asia\, and throughout North America. She is a 2012 Guggenheim Fellow and has received grants and fellowships from the Jerome Foundation\, New York State Council for the Arts\, New York Foundation for the Arts\, and MacDowell. She is professor emerita in the Film Video department at Prat Institute in Brooklyn\, NY. \nOrganized by School of Art Professors James Duesing and Johannes DeYoung\, this event is made possible by the generous support of Carnegie Melon University Center for the Arts in Society\, the College of Fine Arts Dean’s Office\, Dietrich College Department of Modern Languages\, the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry\, the Humanities Scholars Program\, IDeATe\, and Carnegie Mellon School of Art.
